- water quality
Like most appliances, you get what you pay for
Like most appliances, if you purchase a quality hot water tank it will generally last longer. The most common reason why hot water tanks stop working is generally caused through corrosion in the storage facility. If you live in an area that has poor water quality or “hard” water, then you usually find that your hot water systems will need to be replaced more frequently.
Hot water systems that have continuous flow or are instantaneous usually have a much longer life span as they don’t require the storage of water.
Estimated life expectancy of a hot water tank
- Glass or enamel lined tanks : 5-10 years (approx)
- Stainless steel : 7-10 years (approx)
- Coppper tanks : 7 years (approx)
- Heat pumps : 10 years (approx)
